CALVARY MISSIONS WEEK // NOV 3-10, 2024

At Calvary we see missions as part of our everyday calling as followers of Jesus here in Knoxville and around the world! It’s our prayer that this week will lead each of us to engage in a missional focus at home, in our neighborhoods, in a larger region, and throughout the world.

  • Sunday, November 3 // 10:45am - Guest Speaker | Steve Diggs, Executive Director @ Emerald Youth Foundation
  • Wednesday, November 6 // 5:30-7:30pm - Missions Banquet | At this year's banquet, you will have the opportunity to get to know missionaries and their ministries while sitting with some of them at your table over dinner! You will also get to visit with ministry representatives at their display tables after a brief program.
  • Sunday, November 10 // 10:45am - Faith Promise Emphasis

across the street & around the world

We are passionate about showing you who Jesus is. Whether it is in our own neighborhood or across the globe, we can tangibly express God’s love for humanity through our outreach "Jesus Is" projects and mission trips. Join us as we extend our mission beyond our walls and share the love of Jesus in our local and global community.

Local Missions

Our church desires to invest in local ministries and organizations that help fill the gap for people in need in our community. Our approach is to form long-term relationships, where we can invest financial resources and create opportunities for our church body to serve and share the love of Jesus.

Global Missions

The life-changing message of Jesus Christ is intended for a worldwide audience. Our purpose is to impact nations by equipping believers to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19.) We partner with ministries in other parts of the world by providing short-term mission teams, financial support and other resources.

What is Faith Promise Missions?

Faith Promise is Calvary’s way of resourcing our church’s mission efforts by supplying funds to missionaries, ministries and mission organizations with whom we partner. Offerings given to Faith Promise should be above your regular offerings and the tithe.

PROMISE indicates a commitment to God, and FAITH means that we are trusting Him to help us fulfill that commitment throughout the year. Although your giving does make it possible for our church to support His work around the world through the missionaries and organizations we support, your promise is solely between you and the Lord. No one will ever come to you to ask for payment - but because the work is His and is so important, we encourage you to make your commitment prayerfully and follow through by giving faithfully.

Our Faith Promise budget is determined by what GOD wants to accomplish through us - not by what WE think we can or might be able to reasonably give on our own. It is a stretch that extends us beyond our own ability as we obediently wait on the Lord to provide.

The Faith Promise budget at Calvary is separate from our general operating budget. It is determined by the Faith Promise commitments of individuals and families within our church, requests for support, and the vision God has given us as a church for the upcoming year. Your Faith Promise giving directly impacts the specific amounts of support we are able to commit to missionaries and missions organizations each year, and also enables us to better plan what we will do as a church (mission trips, local projects, etc.) Every year Calvary-based projects give many of our own church members the opportunity to be involved in hands-on mission efforts both here at home and around the world - perhaps for the first time ever!

how can i participate?

Start by spending time in prayer, and promise only what you believe God wants to give through you. Once you have determined an amount to give, you can fill out and submit an online pledge form - or if you prefer to use a paper form, just pick one up when you're at church, fill it out and place it in one of the giving boxes in the auditorium or bring it to the church office. We place special emphasis on Faith Promise pledges during our Missions Conference each fall as we prepare to develop our missions budget for the upcoming year, but you can make your commitment and begin giving to Faith Promise at any time during the year.

After you’ve made your Faith Promise commitment, begin praying and watching for how God might supply the amount you have promised. It may come through ordinary means (budgeting and giving on a regular basis from personal income) or through surprise gifts and unforeseen sources of income throughout the year. We’ve seen God do some amazing things in totally unexpected ways in people’s lives when they start praying for money to fulfill a promise! Trust Him to provide, and expect Him to accomplish great things in your own life and throughout the world as a result of your commitment.

Calvary lives changed by faith promise

Calvary lives changed by Faith Promise...

“I would like to thank Calvary for supporting me as I worked in 11 countries in 11 months. I got the unique opportunity to experience God’s Church around the world regardless of denominations, borders, and ethnicities, and to live in a community that stretched me and forced me to go places with God that I never thought possible.”

~ Allan Boehm, World Race Participant

“As a freshman and sophomore in high school I had the opportunity, as a result of Faith Promise giving at Calvary, to participate in youth mission trips to the Navajo Indian Reservation in Flagstaff, Arizona. As a result of these mission experiences God began to draw my heart toward ministry, so much so that in the spring of 1995, I surrendered my life to full time ministry, which brought me back to Calvary 12 years later to serve as the Student Pastor. I am so grateful for a church that invests in missions.”

~ Daniel Justice, former Calvary staff member

“When I was a junior at Carson Newman in 1994, I had just joined Calvary and went on a mission trip to the Philippines. God showed me on that trip that He could work through me and use me to do things that I never imagined, things that were intimidating, like sharing the Gospel with other college students. I went back for 2 more years, and now I’ve been here over 14 years!!! Thanks Calvary for sending me on that first step of my journey.”

~ Kim Cruse, IMB Missionary
