This Weekend

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12 - Women’s Bible Study will NOT meet this week because of Knox County Fall Break. We will resume on October 19.

SUNDAY MORNING - Main Gathering at 10:45am. New Series Begins This Week: WASHED! This series looks at biblical passages that revolve around the theme of water and/or being “washed.” Discussing John the Baptist’s message of repentance in the Gospel of Mark and the baptism of Jesus in Matthew 3, this series considers the importance of baptism in the life of the believer. Naaman’s story of pride and healing is connected to our need to receive grace. The continual process of washing through the water of God’s Word in sanctification is seen as a charge to all believers, everywhere.

ALSO ON SUNDAY MORNING - Catalyst for college students, 9:15am at the Student Center. The perfect time to enjoy old friends and meet lots of new friends! Our current series: Ordinary: How to turn the world upside down!” Come join us as we explore Tony Merida’s thought-provoking book! The kingdom of God isn’t coming with light shows and shock and awe, but with lowly acts of service performed during the normal rhythms of life. Through everyday things like humble acts of service, neighborly love, and hospitality, Christians can shake the foundations of our culture!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON - KNOXCALVARY STUDENTS JOINT WORSHIP SERVICE with the Student Ministry of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. Join us as we go to Dotson Memorial Baptist Church in Maryville for an afternoon of worship and fun! The Calvary Student Band will be leading our time of worship, then after the service we'll have a friendly Battleball competition with the Dotson Memorial students. This event is completely free! We'll leave from the Student Center at 2:45 and be back at 7pm.

SUNDAY EVENING - COMMUNITY GROUPS! Our hope is that all adults and college students will get involved in a Community Group! Lists of groups currently meeting are available on our website - just find a group that interests you and contact the leader for more info, or click "Join a Group" on the KnoxCalvary app and submit the form and we'll help you find one. Many groups meet on Sunday evenings, and childcare/children's choirs are available on the church campus from 6-7pm. Go for it - you'll be glad you did!

ALSO ON SUNDAY EVENINGS - Children's Choirs at 6pm. All creation gives praise to God, and hearing it from the hearts of children is especially sweet. Our children's choir ministry teaches singing, theory, movement, rhythm, and how they can all be used to praise the Lord!

WEDNESDAY EVENING - Calvary Cafe opens at 5:15pm. Come enjoy a delicious meal and stay for Bible study and prayer time starting at 6:30. This week's meal will be Baked Chicken.

  • CALVARY KIDS, don't miss out on KIDSTUF on Wednesday nights! The fun starts at 6:30pm - come and be a part!
  • QUAKE is a worship experience for 6th-12th grade students that includes music, a message from God's Word, and small group time - every Wednesday from 6:30-7:30pm (doors open at 5:50pm), followed by Battleball in the gym till 8pm.
  • WORSHIP CHOIR meets on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the auditorium rehearsal room. The Worship Choir is open to college students through adults.

CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH CLASSES (CEC) meet on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. Some students are refugees beginning a new life in our country, some are visiting academic scholars, and some are immigrants who want to better their employment opportunities by becoming better English speakers. However they come, we recognize that God is bringing them to “our house” for our influence and our testimony of his Grace. Please pray for God-called volunteers - from among us - to read with them and to show them God’s love! Contact Gwen Ford for more information and to volunteer.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19 - ENGAGE 24: An Event for College Students! Join college students from around the nation as we all try to engage those around us with the gospel! Engage24 is a specific time set apart for engaging the world with the good news of Christ. While Engage24 is intensely focused on a single day of evangelism (10.19.17), our mission is to promote a 24/7 lifestyle of evangelism and engagement with the gospel.

How can you be involved on Thursday, October 19?

  • Join other believers as we prayer walk the UT campus! Meet at the BCM at 8am or 4pm.
  • Help conduct surveys on Pedestrian Walkway from 10am-2pm. We will train you and be with you! You will join other students and conduct surveys. Look for the tent and Joe. No experience necessary, just a willingness to try! Go for it!
  • Schedule a meal with a classmate or a friend with the intent of sharing your faith. Bold...Go for it!

TRUNK OR TREAT! Sunday, October 29, 5:30-7:30pm at the Student Center. We are so excited about this year's church-wide Trunk or Treat! It's our goal to make this a HUGE outreach to our community, so start inviting people NOW - we'll have invite cards available soon to make it super-easy! We're asking each and every one of our community groups to help us out by bringing at least one car along with candy to hand out. Prizes will be awarded for the best trunks, and also for best costumes (2 divisions: Children and Youth-Adult) so get creative! Last year's event was amazing, and this year will be even better! Please start getting the word out to our families and our community, and plan to be there to help!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Good News – Great Joy! Operation Christmas Child, a yearly ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes and evangelistic materials that tell the Good News of God’s greatest Gift. Samaritan’s Purse provides the Gospel in the appropriate language – we provide the shoeboxes! Pack your own adult size boxes or like-sized plastic containers or use the free boxes provided by the church.  Boxes and information brochures will be available in the church foyer starting October 22.  Filled boxes should be returned to the church by Sunday morning, November 19. Last year over 500 boxes were collected at Calvary.  Let’s top that this year! (Note:  A big “THANK YOU” to all who donated empty shoeboxes for OCC during this year and, especially, to Coffin Shoe Company for donating most of our boxes.)

GUATEMALA 2018! March 10-17, 2018 - Medical, Children’s, Sports and a variety of community ministries - there will be something for everyone to do!! (These figures are tentative based on Faith Promise supplemental projections, and our Guatemalan missionaries’ estimated costs.) A $100 deposit must be turned in to the church office to hold your spot - SPACE IS LIMITED! Your name as it appears on your passport, your date of birth, and your final payment must be turned in by Sunday, January 28.
